Open Letter of Reconsideration to Governor Palin

Dear Governor Palin,

I am writing this letter to respectfully ask you to reconsider your decision to not seek the presidency. Instead of begging, pleading and rattling off hundreds of reasons why you are the leader we need at this time; I’m going to tell you my story.

I am 25 years old and I can tell you first hand – my generation is lost. My colleagues could care less about the state of our union; they are clueless about what is currently at stake at this very moment in American history. We are losing our country – fast – and they choose to cover their ears and close their eyes. There was a time when I fell into this same class; I've lived in this state of denial toward reality.

We as Americans have become so comfortable with freedom that we cannot identify what it may look like to lose that freedom. If only Americans would grasp Ronald Reagan’s concept of freedom – it’s only one generation away from extinction. If we do not carry the torch, America will go dark and she will slowly fade away. It’s starting to happen now and we’ve got to awaken this country before it’s too late…

I’ll never forget walking through the living room when Senator McCain had just introduced you on stage as his Vice Presidential nominee. Typically, I would have told my mom to “turn that crap off” but on this particular day, I stopped in my tracks and asked, “Who is that?” She explained you had just been picked as the GOP’s Vice Presidential nominee. I sat down, listened to your speech and cheesy as it may be – my life would never be the same.

Weeks later, I moved out of state and on my own. I found myself becoming very interested in politics. I began researching, watching the news and discussing politics with friends and family. As the weeks went by and you hit the campaign trail, I would jump out of bed every morning and turn on the TV to see where you were campaigning that day. You became like part of my family, you kept me from being lonely at a time in my life when I needed someone/something to give me hope for my own future.

One fall day, I took a drive down to Salem, Virginia for a rally you were attending. It was a 3-hour drive and looking back I chuckle when I think about how out of character it was for me to jump in a car and drive 3 hours for a 'political rally'. It turned out to be one of the greatest days of my life. The people I met were so real, kind and patriotic. I looked around the stadium and it was as if a fire was lit inside of me – I was so proud to be an American. A tear rolled down my cheek when the National Anthem played and from that day forward I realized the importance of getting involved and fighting for America.

You’ve inspired millions across this country; I’ve met so many others with a story similar to mine. See, you have a unique ability to stir the hearts of Americans; an ability to energize and enliven people across this country. Yes, this can be used in a positive manner “without a title” but with all due respect, your country needs you. We do not have time for “good ‘ol boys” and typical politicos. America is at the brink and even if we are successful in the general election – without you as our President-elect – we will end up with another politico at a moment in history when we do NOT have time for politics as usual. This "sudden and relentless reform" you speak of, is our only chance of getting America back on the right track.

Governor, you are the type of leader that comes around maybe once in a century. I realize this decision is both momentous and life altering for you and your family, but you’re all we’ve got. And truth be told, we are all you’ve got; you are the people’s candidate and ‘We the People’ need you – for such a time as this.

Your support base will astound both you and your detractors. ‘We the People’ are waiting for the reluctant candidate with a true servant’s heart – that candidate is you. Please Governor, reconsider.

Hopefully and respectfully,
Jelayne Sessler

  5. Sarah is the only one who had my vote. I am very disappointed in the Republican field now. Those left are currently tearing each other apart. I hate to say it but I am not at all excited about voting for any of them. We need Sarah more than ever to get into this race.

  7. I respect Sarah's decision but would like to point out that even Moses had to be convinced by God that he was indeed the chosen one to Lead the Jews out of Egypt... Moses felt God was mistaken, and personally felt he wasn't qualified to lead and even fled the area hoping God would forget and choose someone else to lead the Jews... God didn't forget Moses, in time he came to him again and with unmistakable signs, he convinced Moses to reconsider... So, all I’m saying is that even God's chosen people can be mistaken initially and still, in time, reconsider… God factors in everything and is surprised by nothing so I know if God has chosen Sarah to run, she will run...

  9. Sarah, as I read Jelayne's beautiful letter to you, I pray that you will read it and understand the extent that you DO touch lives. My experience was very much like hers in the sense that I wanted NOTHING to do with politics, President Bush started to change that for me, but nothing struck me as much as the day I heard McCain say he had picked you as his VP...I was upset that he didn't pick someone I knew, but that all changed when I first saw you and I swear to you...I heard a voice inside me loud and clear (I believe to be the Lord's)...telling me that I was looking into the face of a future president of the United States of America. I cried like a baby (which I DO NOT DO)..wondered at my strange response, but from that day, I've been waiting and thought with all my heart..."For such a time as this" knowing that YOU are exactly what this country needs NOW!! If there is any chance at all of you reconsidering, WE REALLY NEED YOU AND WE WILL SUPPORT YOU!! Sincerely, Stephanie

    Jelayne, GREAT LETTER!!

  10. I also was mesmerized by the acceptance speech you gave in 2008 Governor Palin, and still am by your well grounded principled statements that you bring us today. I am actually very pessimistic these days, more so than when I was at Jelayne's age in the 70's under Carter, I knew of no agenda of Carter's to "fundamentally change" America back then, he just sucked. We need you Madam President, you are the only one who draws the perfect contrast to Hussein Obama and who I believe has been fully stripped and vetted by the enemies of state, their media. No other Candidate can survive the forces of evil that are at the gate, only you Madam President. Godspeed and waiting still.
    Thank you

  13. Awesome work there, Jelayne! I, too, wrote a similar letter on Sarah Palin's Facebook page. I was gonna write another tonite, but you did it for me. I cannot top it! So Sarah, megadittos for me, too!

  14. Sorry, but November 1 was the deadline to file to be on the ballots for primaries.

Being a candidate takes a willingness to work hard for 2 years. You can't take a bus out for 6-7 days, then head home, pop out a month later for a fair, make a few remarks and head home again while the others are willing to put themselves out there on the debate stage and play by the rules for fundraising, filing to get on the ballots, put together field staff and a message.

It's easy to throw darts and play armchair quarterback on Fox, but despite some good instincts, natural attractiveness, Sarah made a mistake leaving the Governor's office. She needed to stay to shepherd the pipeline project, protect the tax changes she implemented. I watched the Undefeated -- she made a brave start -- just think about how different things would be for her if she had stuck it out. Quitting because someone said she violated ethics rules because she wore a jacket with a company logo on it? Good grief, the President puts up with more snotty remarks in the first 45 minutes of Fox and Friends every day than Sarah dealt with in Alaska. She would have been a credible candidate if she had stayed.

  26. Very well said! I also felt the same way when she was announced. Sarah was the reason for the first time I ever got out and voted!! I dont think she realizes how many single moms and young mom's in general she has behind her also. We don't want to see our children grow up into this gov't chaos.

  29. Jelayne, you have written a very inspiring letter to Sarah Palin, I hope she gets to read. I am 53, and I have FOLLOWED politics since the 1968, on a daily basis. I did not physically get involved in politics until after Sarah Palin resigned from her Governorship. I drove six hours in my state, NY, to help elect the candidate Sarah first endorsed. Since then I have been to many Tea Party rallies and besides meeting Sarah Palin in large and small rallies, I have had the 'pure luck' occasion to talk to her in a private setting. There will always be those that choose to live in their reality and not believe her reasons for resigning as GOV., even though she has clearly stated her reasons many times. They can stay in their reality and post whatever nonsense they choose, but Gov. Palin has always been honest to those that listen and clear with her intentions as the time arrives to be so. Anonymous above is correct that Sarah can no longer win the Republican nomination. If she wants to run for President she will have to do so as a 3rd Party candidate. This is unlikely. Her critics see her actions as dart throwing. Her supporters see her as being a voice for Conservatives that is rare in the MSM. A vision matters, not just getting elected. Sarah will remain a positive national political figure for many years to come. Jelayne, follow her and you too will help Restore America.

  30. AMEN ... the people are calling ... when the time is ripe ... and no one else is leading the people ... will you heed our call?

    Great OPEN LETTER. I agree.

  31. If ya haven't figured it out yet, The establishment (current Government Power Brokers, I.E. Reid, McCain, Frank, Obama, and their cronies etc...) obviously got to Sarah Palin in some way. I dont know what they got on her or what they did to her, but it was enough to get her to quit her job in Alaska too... Did ya notice how all this came about after she said she would go after all the crooked politicians in Washington D.C.??? Think about it... They either threatened her family or children or something... Something nasty went on... Thats just my opinion though... Thats why I believe she didn't run for President, and quit her Governors job... Just my opinion...

  32. She stepped down as Governor because she had no other choice. Alaska, unlike any other state in the US, has a Constitution that makes the Governors position the same as a CEO would be for a Corp. She was being sued in the form of hundreds of bogus ethics complaints and she alone had to pay for the Attorneys to answer them in Court. She stepped down to avoid bankruptcy and the waste of time to the job she held. She had already achieved major legislation that has made life in Alaska much better then she found it. She fought the corruption on both sides of the aisle along with standing up to the Big oil lobby all for the good of the people of Alaska. I think Sarah would have risked the threats on her and her family if she was called to service by enough of the people, maybe tonight in Florida something big happens. I pray!

  33. What a heartfelt letter of encouragement. I couldn't have written a better letter. God Bless the entire Palin Family and Jelanye for putting on paper what I've been feeling from day 1 when Sarah was introduced to the American public. Beautiful, inspirational, smart, energetic -- what's not to love! Reconsider Sarah . . . . you are truly a leader! Jeanie P

  34. Sarah, I concur with Jayne's request. We are watching the present field of GOP candidates come off weak on isues and self destruct. We are concerned they will let Obama off the hook.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Very well said!! I also did not know you when you were chosen, but I listened, studied etc and was convinced you could do the job. Unfortunately you did not get the chance. Now you have a chance to be even greater as president instead of vice president. I pu a bumper sticker with your picture on my SUV for 2012. Still there!! Still hoping you will reconsider!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Will Gov Palin even see this? I too feel the same way, she is the ONLY person I want to vote for because she is the ONLY one who gets it, she's the ONLY person I trust to do what is right not politically right. If she were to run now she would be the first person running for anything that would get money out of me. I still believe.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It 's all in god's hand ... when he calls Sarah she will answer

  38. I second that motion! George Washington also was reluctant to serve. That worked out Fantastic! He was the Father of the USA, I guess that makes you, Sarah Palin, the Mother of this country. My daughter was also energized by your candidacy for Vice President. She had never been political before but registered before the deadline as she would be 18 by the November Election in 2008. She was so hoping that you would run. Please Sarah, we need YOU! Smokin Moma of Florida!

  39. I am way past the 25 year old generation, but I can say Sarah, it broke my heart when you said you were not running for President in 2012! After trying to choose one person out of the ones that are running on the Republican ticket, I am at a loss as to who to vote for. Sarah, if you don't run, we will have another 4 years of a man that wants and will destroy this Nation! I am praying that you will reconsider and help us take back America as our President in 2012!

  40. Thank you so much for layng your heart out there in this amazing letter. Your words are the words of We the People, just as Sarah's message is the message of the people. God Bless you. Proud to be blessed by your friendship.

  41. I've never really paid much attention to politics or religion. Now I find myself praying that Sarah will reconsider and run. Praying that it is God's will. How ironic.

    1. A no-vote for our current field is a vote for Obama. You can't just not vote. I would love nothing better than to pull that lever for Palin, but if she's not there, I'll vote for whomever our nominee might be.
